Dr. Sotkiewicz received his Ph. D. in Economics at the University of Minnesota in 2003. He presently serves as the Director of Energy Studies at the University of Florida’s Public Utility Research Center. In this capacity, Dr. Sotkiewicz conducts training programs and advises regulatory agencies around the world on regulatory policy and strategy.  Before his arrival at the University of Florida, Dr. Sotkiewicz served on the Chief Economic Advisor’s staff at the United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  He has also served on the Wholesale Market Technical Advisory Committee of the Energy 2020 Study Commission for the State of Florida.  Dr. Sotkiewicz’s research focuses on the design of market mechanisms in newly restructured electricity markets, the impact of different utility regulatory regimes on outcomes in air pollution markets, and tariff structure and design for transmission and distribution systems with particular attention to distributed generation and cross-subsidy implementation in developing countries.
