Professor Robert Lanzillotti founded PPRC in 1975. Since that time, PPRC has supported faculty research in public policy, provided fellowships that have enabled outstanding graduate students to further their study of public policy, and sponsored academic seminars and conferences on public policy. Such noted economists as Mark Armstrong, William Baumol, Alan Greenspan, Eric Maskin, and Nobel Laureates Kenneth Arrow, Milton Friedman, Paul Samuelson, Robert Solow, Joseph Stiglitz, and James Tobin have delivered public lectures at the University of Florida under PPRC auspices. PPRC has also assisted the Florida Council of 100 in organizing conferences for the State's business leaders, helping to bring leading economists to Florida to meet with the State's business and political leaders to discuss pressing economic policy issues.
PPRC's ongoing activities include the following:
1. Public Policy Seminars.
PPRC sponsors lectures on public policy by researchers,
policy makers, and business leaders. Lectures by leading researchers from
throughout the world help PPRC researchers keep abreast of the best public
policy research being conducted at other institutions. Public lectures
by policy makers and business leaders, especially those from Florida, help
researchers and the Florida community alike better appreciate the central
problems faced by key decision makers.
2. Public Policy Conferences.
To supplement regular public policy seminars throughout
the academic year, PPRC hosts public policy conferences. The conferences
promote productive interaction among the world's leading researchers, public
policy makers, and business leaders. Conferences will address a variety
of topics of particular relevance to Florida's public policy makers. On
occasion, PPRC joins forces with the University's
Public
Utility Research Center, which hosts a stimulating conference each
year for researchers, business leaders, and regulators from Florida's public
utility industries.

3. Faculty Development.
PPRC's impact in Florida will ultimately hinge on the
dedication and creativity of its research associates. To foster and reward
outstanding contributions to public policy formulation, PPRC promotes faculty
development in a variety of ways. For instance, PPRC sponsors faculty travel
that furthers essential research collaboration, discussions with colleagues
and policy makers, and dissemination of research findings.
4. Graduate Student Support.
Graduate students at the University of Florida also conduct
useful public policy research. Their research is supported by PPRC in a
variety of ways. Most importantly, PPRC fellowships are provided to those
graduate students whose research in public policy is judged to be of exceptionally
high quality.
